Hi, I’m Katie Lo.
Lo is short for Lozancich. You get extra brownie points if you can pronounce it right. I’m originally from the Sacramento area and stumbled into the outdoor world when I saw my first-ever Warren Miller movie in college. Until then, I knew nothing about couloirs, summits, and stoke. Quite honestly, I don’t remember much about the movie. Instead, I couldn't stop thinking about how someone was behind the lens of all this.
Unable to shake that thought, I dropped out of college and moved to Truckee, California, hoping to make that crazy dream a reality. Pursuing that goal, I interned with Freehub Magazine and worked at Teton Gravity Research for three and a half years, honing my skills with major brands in the outdoor industry and an array of high-caliber athletes. I also returned to school and received an A.A. in photography from Sierra College and a B.A. in Visual Communication from Seattle Pacific University.
In 2022, I launched my own freelance photography business. Through photography, painting, and film, I blur the lines between documentary and fine art to create compelling visual narratives. I also currently work as the Photo Editor at The Ski Journal, where I combine my love of print and visual storytelling to help craft the quarterly coffee table journal.
I now call Western Massachusetts home, where I also teach skiing and mountain biking, sharing my passion for the outdoors with others.
